In the Mood for Color - AECP

Hi there and welcome back!  Today I am sharing my card I made for the class In the Mood For Color which is part of my level 2 AECP.  In this class we learned to create cards using colours to convey a feeling, as all colours represent a certain feeling and/or message and the moods associated with them.  For my card I went with a different colour palette than what was shown in class.  We have been having quite abit of rain here this month...May is always kind of rainy for us.  So because of this I wanted to convey that rainy and kind of dreary and neutral feeling that gray brings....although there is a wee bit of other colours hidden in the flowers, as the sun has peeked out a few times.  Like The Carpenters say in their song...Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.

I decided to use Wallpaper Art, which is my favourite floral from Altenew.  I just love these big open flowers....so perfect for lots of different colouring mediums.  I stamped all 3 flowers and heat embossed them in black on watercolour paper, as I was going to be adding water to them.  Next I took one of the Magical Shakers from Lindys Gang in Black Forest Black and sprinkled just a tiny little bit on the flowers.  You really don't need alot of it at all.  Next I spritzed a bit of water on them and that just brought this powder to life...wow!

You can see just how much they spread and bloom from just that small amount of powder. And the other colours hidden in there are gorgeous!  Anyways I set that aside to dry on its own (although I did help it just a wee little bit in the end bc I am impatient lol)  While my flowers were drying, I mixed some of the Nimbus ink with some Crackle Distress Texture Paste and then spread it over the Broken Chevron stencil but I ensured that I did not have full coverage.  I think that it gives it more of a distressed look that way.  I then set that aside and quickly cleaned the paste off my tools before they started to dry.

Next I fussy cut the flowers and as close as I could get to the edges of it and then went over the edges of them with a black marker to hide any bits of white edges, as I didn't want that to distract.  I decided to add a few leafs so I stamped 2 of the leaf branches and cut those out and cut apart 1 of the branches in half so I would have 3 leaf branches.  Once my background was dry I added a bit more to it with some black splatters.  I love adding splatters to a background...it just adds so much without being too much.  I heat embossed in white on black cardstock the sentiment from the Poppy Garden stamp set and trimmed that down.  A little tip for removing any stubborn white anti-static powder from your black cardstock is to go over it with an ever so slightly damp towel and it brings your cardstock back to the original black with no white powder in sight.

To assemble my card I added some craft foam to the back of the stencilled piece for some dimension on the card base and arranged and adhered my flower and leaf cluster directly using some liquid adhesive and then popped up my sentiment using foam tape. I added a few iridescent black pearls for the finishing touch and voila...that's it!

I absolutely LOVE how this turned out!  I was only going to add 2 of the flowers, but I decided to go all out.  This class was wonderful and really made me stop and think about my colour choices and the different moods behind them and what feelings we associate with them.  I do think I conveyed my moody feeling with this card.  Now don't get me wrong, I do love the rain and rainy days, but after so many days it can get to be alot and get you down a bit.

Thank you so very much for joining me today and spending a bit of crafty time with me.  I would love to hear what you think down below in the comments!  Don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss out on any further posts.  Thank you so very much again and I hope you have a wonderfully crafty day and you don't have as much rain as we do 😂

Until next time,
Michelle 💗
