Hi crafty friends and welcome back! Today I am sharing my project for the next class in my AECP journey, Beyond Basic Backgrounds. This class was taught by Lydia Evans and was packed full with so many great tips and techniques for making amazing backgrounds! The technique that I decided to do was one I have seen many times but never attempted....until now!
For my card I decided to do a diecut background but with the images stamped , coloured and set back from the diecutting. It is a rather simple technique but very pretty and I love the dimension you get from it! I decided to use the Floral Motifs stamp set for this and keep it simple and pretty using tones of pinks. I will admit that I did have to redo this a few times as I kept messing up, but I think I got there in the end.
To start my card I stamped out the floral images on a piece of 4.25x5.5" white cardstock. I did trim it down in the end but I always like to start with that size and then trim it down, if necessary. Once I had them all stamped out I then proceeded to cut out each of the images. For my base layer I had to stamp out all the images again in the exact same spot as the diecut images, so for this part I used my Misti stamp positioner. As it was white cardstock on white, it was a bit hard to see to try and line them up properly, so the Misti definitely helped to make sure I had them in the right position and kept my paper in place as well. I did have 1 that I stamped a wee bit out of the diecut and another I realize now that I completely forgot to stamp, but that's just a wee little one on the side, so I am not that bothered by it.
Next I proceeded to do some simple colouring using a few pink Copic markers and brought them to life. For my sentiment I used the Hello Sunshine stamp set. I love that sweet sentiment! I then trimmed 1/8" off of each side of my diecut panel to make the finished size of that 4x5.25". I added some foam tape to the back and added it to my stamped piece and then added them to my cardbase. To finish it off I stamped and cut down my sentiment and added a little strip of black cardstock to the bottom to add a bit of definition. I added it straight on using some liquid adhesive and then a few light pink sequins and that is it.
I really enjoyed experimenting with this technique! It definitely took a little bit of planning on how I was going to have the images and I did actually try 2 different stamp sets until I landed on this stamp set. I really hope that you have enjoyed my card for today and definitely give this technique a try if like me, you have seen it many times but was never brave enough to give it a try.
Thank you so very much for stopping by today and spending a wee bit of your day with me. I wish you all the most wonderful day and I hope you find a bit of time to sit down and get crafty!
Until next time,
Michelle 💗
