Now for my background and my happy little accident. I knew that I wanted a more of a grungy look to it, so I grabbed some of my pigment powders. At first I was planning on going pretty dark with it, so I gravitated towards black and red. I went through about 5 or 6 different backgrounds until I realized they were just too dark and weren’t giving me the look I had envisioned. I tried many combinations of different texture pastes before the powders, paste after and then paste before and after the powders.
The one I finally decided on was just a scrap piece of watercolour paper that was bound for the garbage. I wanted to try red and green together without making a muddy brown colour, so this was my experimental piece. I just randomly sprinkled on some of the green pigment powder, spritzed it with some water and dried it thoroughly. Next I did the same with the red and I made sure to try not to mix them too much. If they started to muddy abit, I quickly dabbed the excess with a paper towel.
Once that was all dry, I grabbed the Christmas Naturally Stencil and added a bit of Tranaparent Gloss Texture Paste and added a bit over the stencil. I didn’t cover it completely as this was really only a scrap to experiment on. So I let that all dry completely and once it was all dry you know what, I actually really loved it! So what did I do…I trimmed it down a bit and used that as my background. It is kind of hard to see the transparent gloss in the photos but it is there, if you look closely you can see it. A few splatters of gold watercolour paint were then added.
For the wreath I knew I wanted the gold embossed branches to make it up. So I layered 7 of them up to form the half wreath, trimming the top of them to lay nicely. Some foam squares were added to the back of them for a bit of dimension. I heat embossed the sentiment from the Poinsettia stamp set on Eclipse Black cardstock in the same gold as the branches. I decided to layer some of the other branches under the gold for a bit more interest at the last minute. They were trimmed down and tucked under the side of the wreath using a bit of glue. For the finishing touch I added some gold pearls in varying sizes both on the wreath and to the side. It was all added to a top folding cardbase using Eclipse Black cardstock.
I really hope that you have enjoyed my card for today. Happy little accidents are always a good thing! In crafting there is never such thing as an unhappy accident…almost lol I am definitely going to hold onto all of the backgrounds that didn’t make the cut today. I can always use them for diecuts or who knows….tomorrow I may like them.
