Color Your Day - AECP

It's all about colour!  Today I am sharing my card for the class Color Your Day in the level 2 AECP program.  This class was taught by the very lovely and talented Therese Calvird.  It was all about being inspired by colour all around and you never know where you may find inspiration and there were many more wonderful ideas shown in this class.  For my card today I decided to turn to the ever inspiring Pinterest and my colour mood inspiration board, where I found a colour combo that never disappoints and is always perfect!

The colours I decided to use as my inspiration consist of shades of violet, gray, white and a dark pistachio and I decided to substitute the gray for a metallic silver.  This is always a beautiful combination and purple/violet is a colour I don't use nearly enough, but it is always a very regal colour.

I decided to use the Fabulous Florets stamp set for the florals...I just love the large and flowy petals on these flowers.  I stamped out both flowers and all of the leaves several times using Jet Black ink.  For the flowers I used the Sugarplums mini ink cubes and used Pale Mauve for the base layer and I actually stamped that 3x to get a darker shade.  I then did the detail layer using Grape Agate.  There is 1 colour in between these 2, but I wanted the definition that the darker  layer would give, instead of using the next colour in the set.  For the leaves I used the Tropical Forest mini ink cube set.  Again with this I used 2 colours that have a colour between the 2 to give that definition...I used Bamboo and Olive.  Did I say how super easy it is to layer up these flowers?  They are probably one of the easiest I have used so far!
I used my Misti stamp positioner to stamp out out these images, as I find it always makes layered images a snap with a stamp positioner.  Please excuse my very well loved sheet of grid paper on it....off to change that now!

Next I cut them all out and instead of using the flower centers that are part of the stamp set, I decided to add a bit of texture to them by using some little silver microbeads....when I say micro I really mean it,  these babies are really tiny but so pretty.  I like the bit of added texture they add.  So I laid down a thinish layer of glue and sprinkled on the beads.  I made sure to do this over a sheet of copy paper so I could easily funnel them back into the container, but I still ended up with them all over the place lol

To add even more texture to my card and to bring in the gray/silver colour, I cut out using silver metallic paper the Mid-Century die.  I love the bit of detail this adds and also the negative piece that you get with this (I'll definitely be using that more as well).  So I first added some double sided adhesive to the back of the silver metallic paper, as this is more of a delicate die and using a liquid adhesive would have been a pain and especially with it being a mirrored cardstock, I didn't want to take the chance of getting glue on the front of it.

For the card front I cut a piece of white cardstock to 4"x5.25" and then added some paint splatters...you always need the splatters!  I first used Deep Iris and once that was dried I went in with Jet Black, both from the Watercolor 36 Pan Set.  I set it aside to dry just to make sure it was all good to go and then put it altogether, starting with the silver die-cut and followed with the floral arrangement,  I used a combination of liquid adhesive and foam squares for this,  The sentiment I used from the Simple Roses stamp set and I heat embossed that in white detail embossing powder on black cardstock.  I made sure to use detail embossing powder, as the font on the sentiment is very small and fine.  All that was left was to add a few sequins, as always.

This class was a wonderful reminder that we can get inspiration from anywhere.  And don't be afraid to use colour and try combinations you maybe you have not tried or even thought of before.  A great tool to have that Therese showed and used was the colour wheel.  They are very inexpensive to get but also if you don't have one or have access to one, there are so many free ones on the internet.  These are great to refer to in case you ever unsure of whether certain colour combos will compliment one another.  I need to remember to use mine more often.
Also if you are ever stuck for colour inspiration, turn to Google or Pinterest.  You can find so much inspiration there.  Also there are some great card making colour challenges out there, that push you to try new and different combinations. Don't be afraid to just got for it...you never know unless you try.

Thank you so very much for stopping by today.  I would love to know what you think down below.  I wish you all the most wonderful day and hope you find some time to sit down and play with colour!

Until next time,
Michelle 💗
